That weekend projects post last month where I showed off some new yarn became these two cowls. The yarn was an impulse buy at Michaels. I saw the two free Patons project cards in the yarn aisle and I scooped them up and all the necessary yarn for these two cowls.
The top one is knit, the bottom, crochet. They were both fun to make and the patterns were very easy to follow...although I altered the crochet pattern and made it increasingly smaller so it would fit snug around the neck. No use for the wide cowl shown in the pattern! Our Minnesota winters wind would chill right through that gap. Anyway, I even learned a new crochet stitch called DCFP. It is basically crocheting into the post made by a double crochet (here's a nice video how to). It leaves a raised chain stitch that would look pretty as a pattern itself, here's how it looks on the inside.
