Yesterday was Martinmas but at the preschool we choose to always celebrate it just before Halloween. Good thing we do as last week we were hit with early snowstorms here in Minnesota and very early frigid temperatures. It would have made our night time walk down by the lake unbearable!
I tried something new with the kids this year (I mentioned last year) wanting to try a paper mache lantern with leaves to decorate and give it color. I think they turned out beautifully!! I decided to create a form using milk cartons so the children had a base of sorts to work with. Then using our pressed autumn leaves the children glued a leaf or two to each side then more paper mache on top. Handles were made from thick handmade paper attached with a star brad.
Hi, I stumbled upon your blog looking for stories with a lantern theme and found your son's great little Mother Earth tale! So this weekend we made all the characters and turned it into a puppet play for our preschool here on Martha's Vineyard. I'm glad I discovered your blog...you are seriously crafty:) I took a picture but don't know how to share it with you!
What Laura doesn't know (yet) is that her comment absolutely elevated my now ten-year-old son. He was seven when he shared his story, Mother Nature and the Lantern (find it here) at my preschool, and all these years later Laura's comment sure brought a smile to my son's face that lasted for days. I do hope she figures out how to share her photo! Thank you Laura!!
Keep warm friends!! xxx
