No more planes, hotels and taxis. I have finished my traveling for the year and it feels so good to be home. Actually, I'm done with work for now until the baby comes. Travel these days is difficult enough with long lines and delays, but throw a big belly and a tired mama into the mix and it has become truly dreadful for me. I'm happy to finally be home from a ten day program in Mexico.
This lovely bowl created by the Huichol Indians of Mexico is made of seed beads pressed into wax in the base of a gourd. I've always been impressed by their work as they quickly press the beads into the wax without using any kind of pattern, yet it always works out in complete balance.
It was a great last trip for me. I got to work with some of my closest friends who all live in other parts of the world. It was a reunion of sorts, but with a lot of work thrown in. I was fortunate to work with a dear friend who is also pregnant (and we have the same due date!). We bonded over mamahood. No one quite understands having to eat/pee/rest "right this minute" like another pregnant woman. And we shared those common fears, like thinking you somehow killed the baby when you have felt no fluttering movements in the past few hours. But thankfully, all is well.
It seems in Mexican culture there are no boundaries to touching a pregnant woman's belly. I have never received so much attention with a pregnancy before. And I really didn't mind it. Women there feel free to rub and touch and share their thoughts on whether it's a boy or girl. I think with all the love and attention to the baby it grew twice it's size in the time I was away. The shirt I flew there in did not fit on my return.
I never did share the results from my ultrasound earlier last month. It's a scary thing going in being of "advanced maternal age". Sometimes I feel like the doctors want you to think you'll be giving birth to some sort of alien baby...my eggs being so old and everything. But, it was not the case. We are blessed that the ultrasound showed us a very healthy baby.
And we couldn't wait to find out that we're having another boy.
