Last night we had friends over for dinner and I chose a triple espresso for dessert. This bird ATC is the result of a much too caffeinated body. Everyone else here was sound asleep, but I sat jittering at the computer linking away to more new worlds. So I'm not even sure how I got here, but I found this site called Wednesday Stamper. A new theme for stamping is posted every Wednesday and you can share your work there. Last Wednesday's theme was Birds. Lately I've been feeling inspired, looking at some of my favorite bird images here and here. So how could I possibly refuse this challenge!!? But I had to do it right then, as today is the deadline to post. So this was the motivation to carve my own bird stamp. (Here's my first attempt at stamp carving.) And the bird stamp here:
Obviously, I need to work on my carving skills, but I'm pleased with the results. Even with that triple espresso!!
Well, now is a good time to mention that I am hosting a Bird Theme ATC Swap. There are already eleven people in the swap, but more are welcome!! Make six ATCs, (standard 2.5" x 3.5") using any medium, and have them mailed to me by October 16th. Include a SASE and I will swap them out and mail them to you on the 17th. Leave a comment here and I will send you the details.
Now I'm ready for a double latte! :)

can I play in the bird swap? Have a beautiful day.

I'm so excited to be in the swap!! I am so amazed with your beautiful stamp carving - I don't think I'll ever be able to carve something so wonderful! Really lovely! That triple espresso did you up right! I'm off to visit the Wednesday Stamper site - sounds fun. I did make my first ATC and it went to Selena ~ I'll post a picture of it at some point soon!

Your talent never ceases to amaze me. That handcarved bird stamp islovely. I hope someday I get something with that stamped on it. :) Caffine affects me like that too. Maybe I need a triple espresso to get started on my Bird ATCs.

I can't possibly pass up an ATC swap! Especially if it involves birds. Count me in!

I love your bird... great ATC!

beautiful work! (and thank you for the "shout-out" :)

Loverly handiwork! I've not done an ATC swap - I think I'll have to give it a go. Do all six cards need to be the same?

Beautiful stamp and Atc - lovely style! And great that you bought the rolls of wall paper - I think they are great! Book covers, ATC-frames or backgrounds, collage - anything! I know you'll put them to good use!

Great work on carving that stamp! Fantastic!

I can't believe this was your first ever carved stamp. It puts my sad little apron to shame. Your detail is incredible. And although it is 10pm a triple latte sounds delectable right about now. You coffee tease. On the ATC front, I just made my first one. I'm sort of happy with it but I realize I need paper supplies, especially for this swap coming up. Thanks for organizing it.

I'd love to joing your atc swap if it's not too late. Your bird is beautiful!

I'd like to play too, if there's room for one more. I've never done an ATC before and I'm not exactly sure what it entails. But I'm feeling brave. :-)

I can get in on the ACTion? Also, I wanted to thank you for all your nice comments on my blog. I'm feeling a bit behind in the thank yous, so thanks for coming back even when I'm remiss. :)

Like your bird carving very much, and I was just thinking of doing my first stamp carving just yesterday after watching That's Clever! HGTV - carving from linoleum. Count me in on the bird swap, too!

Finally I found you again.
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog.
I had a few adventures with the computer(s) I was using and ended up missing a few blogs from my bookmarks.
This stamp of yours is really wonderful and the way you used it, with all the colours and background, worked out very beautiful. It reminds me of a vintage postcard.
I bought a few erasers and the cutters a while ago to start making stamps as well but never did and now you just make me want to do it.
Thanks for the link, it is already on my bookmarks.
A question: What does ATC stand for?
I would love to join the swap but I'm going to move house in the next few weeks and until I'm settled I don't think I can commit to anything like that. :(
Next time...

Okay, so we have even more in common, secret pal. I have been stamping and doing all sorts of paper crafts since I was a kid! This is where I bow to your superior abilities, however. I love your carved stamp. It reminds me of Mary Azarian's woodcut work. Yum. Anyway, what would you think of ATC's with wee knitted birds on them? One of my latest things is making cards with small, two-dimensional knitted shapes on them. If "any medium" extends to textiles, I'd love to swap. It would be great to get my creative juices flowing. If not, I'll just send you something for fun.

That is a great little carving you got there...

Hi, thanks for coming to visit. I have no idea what an ATC is. Obviously I live my life under a rock because everyone else seems to know what you are talking about. I love the colours on your blog. See you again.

Well girl, another fantastic carving!

Can I join the swap too? Your stamp is wonderful. Reminds me that I bought some supplies to do that from Dick Blick, months ago. I wonder where that bag is?

I love your stamp, Kristin!! I don't see how you need to improve your carving skills, it looks beautiful!
I would love to participate in the swap {my first ever!}, but I don't know if I'm too late. Let me know!

Posted by: Ky | September 24, 2006 at 06:23 PM
I would love to join, I draw/design/sew birds all the time...but given that I just discovered this and the due date AND my busy life over the next week, I very sadly won't. :( Oh, how I would love to.
Your relief work is great.
