Yesterday I had the great honor of spending the afternoon with a new blogging friend. Mimi is in town for the NIADA conference and I was thrilled we were able to get together. I met her at her hotel and was greeted by these darling creatures...
Breathtaking!! I have been in awe of Mimi's dolls since I first discovered her site, so seeing them live like this was just amazing for me. Her artistry, creativity and attention to detail astounds me. Then she brought out her postcards.
Beautifully stitched fabric with wonderful details. Mimi shared the history of the fabric she used, much of which came from her mother. Oh decisions, decisions!!
I was finally able to decide on these two postcards.
Just can't wait to get them framed. It was tougher to decide on a doll, but in the end the sweet fairy came home to live with us.
See more pictures of her here.
We went for lunch and visited a few cool shops before the the heat finally got to us and we stopped for ice cream.
Peach for Mimi, coffee (always) for me.
It was so wonderful to talk with this new friend! To share our blogging experiences and to hear tips and details of her work. This was such a great meeting for me and I wish we could have chatted forever but the distractions of a two year old made that a bit of a challenge. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon Mimi! And thanks to this great community that brought two new friends into my life this month that I would never have had the opportunity to know otherwise.

She does fabulous work!!! It's always coffe for me too !! Thanks for visiting, have fun catching up & I hope you had an enjoyable break!

Lucky you! I love Mimi's work! Her dolls are so sweet. They make me wish I could just pick them up and hold them! And the detailing on her postcards--you're right. They're amazing. Another lovely post, Kristin. And I'm so glad you two friends had a nice time together!

Wow! I am so green with envy that you were able to see her work in person! I've had the pleasure of seeing several of her wonderful ATCs in person so I feel fortunate in that respect. The postcards you chose are really breath taking; lucky girl!

It's true, Mimi Kirchner is one of the very best, and I draw a lot of inspiration from her, as I'm sure many people do. What a lovely thing to be able to link up, something us Melbourne girls can only sigh at. Looks like you guys had a ball.

I respect friendship,I know true love is always good when you love a good friend.
But I have a cruel life story, fate that hit me hard.

Just a life that I never want to lead like what I am.
Am I lost?

OK, I am dreadful at responding to comments, I never know how to do it directly.
About the wheat paste- I posted my really amazing friend's recipe in this post:

And for the mulberry paper, any good art store should have it, but as I live in a small town with few resources, I ordered it online, very inexpensive (I think the shipping was more than the paper). I recommend a thin paper. I am in love with this process and now all my fabric is turned into book cloth, I guess it is a good thing I don't sew. Good luck + let me know if you need any pointers. ~Shona
